What Happens When You Unfollow a Trader
Thinking of unfollowing someone? Here's exactly what happens to your positions.
Unfollow vs Pause
| Action | New Buys | Sells | Open Positions |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pause | Stopped | Still mirrored | Stays open |
| Unfollow | Stopped | Stopped | Stays open |
Pausing (Recommended)
When you pause copying:
- No new buy trades are copied
- Sells are still mirrored - if the trader exits a position, you exit too
- This protects you from being stuck holding positions the trader already left
- You can resume anytime
Unfollowing Completely
When you unfollow a trader:
- No new trades are copied (buys or sells)
- Your open positions remain exactly as they are
- You're now responsible for managing those positions yourself
- You'll need to manually sell or wait for market resolution
Common Mistake
Don't unfollow during a losing streak!
| What Happens | Why It's Bad |
|---|---|
| You unfollow while positions are down | Locks in your loss timing |
| Trader recovers and profits | You miss the recovery |
| You sold at the worst time | Emotional decision |
Better approach: Pause instead. You'll still get the sells (protection) without new buys.
What to Do Before Unfollowing
| Step | Action |
|---|---|
| Check your open positions with that trader | |
| Decide: sell them now or hold to resolution? | |
| If holding, remember to monitor them yourself | |
| If selling, close positions first, then unfollow |
Pro Tip
Use Pause instead of Unfollow if you have open positions. This keeps sell protection active while stopping new buys. Only unfollow once all positions with that trader are closed.
